Mohamed Nassereldine, President of the Russian–Lebanese Cooperation Office “Roslivan,” participated in the international scientific and practical conference held in Moscow under the title “Religious Traditions in Russia: Contribution to Strengthening the Unity of Society and Its Development.”

In his address, Nassereldine discussed the role of religious traditions and ethical values in strengthening social cohesion and promoting citizenship, dialogue and cooperation among peoples.

He stated that, in his view, the strength of societies should not be measured solely by economic growth and technological progress, but also by their ability to build an ethical framework that protects human dignity and promotes responsibility, solidarity and mutual respect.

Nassereldine highlighted what he described as the complementary roles of faith, science and culture. He said faith can reinforce values such as compassion, justice and responsibility, while science expands knowledge and equips societies to address challenges through critical and objective thinking. Culture, he added, connects individuals with their identity and history while encouraging greater understanding of other cultures.

He also addressed the social and cultural role of religious institutions, saying that their responsibilities can extend beyond religious practice to include ethical education, social solidarity, support for families and humanitarian initiatives, as well as encouraging dialogue and confronting hatred, intolerance and division.

Nassereldine emphasized the importance of using religious and ethical values to reinforce the concept of citizenship, which he described as a framework combining rights, duties and responsibilities toward society, the state and other people.

He argued that equal citizenship can allow religious and cultural identities to exist within a common framework based on respect for the law, human dignity, the rights of others and service to the public interest.

On the international level, Nassereldine stressed the importance of cooperation among religious organizations in promoting peace and understanding between peoples. He said interfaith dialogue can contribute to building trust, opening channels of communication, reducing misunderstanding and supporting joint humanitarian, cultural and educational initiatives.

He concluded that the unity of peoples does not require eliminating their religious or cultural particularities, but rather creating a shared space based on mutual respect, dignity, justice, responsibility and dialogue.

According to Nassereldine, managing diversity through dialogue rather than division can help transform faith, science and culture into bridges for cooperation, peace and understanding among peoples.
